End of Year Counselling
This time of year can be complicated. We are ready to have a break from the demands of the calendar year. It might be some time off work, going on a trip away from home, and for kids, it’s having holidays from school. Whatever the situation, there is a slowing down of some activities and an amplification of others.
It is a time of reflection and consolidation. We remember the year past or in some cases try to forget and move on, and we take with us into the new year some new goals, plans and learning. It is a time of recalibration, celebration, commiseration and hope.
It can feel both liberating and suffocating, and everything in between. Some of us respond to routine and structure, and the freedom of the festive season can feel chaotic and destabilising. Others of us feel like we can finally exhale, let go of the pressures of obligation, and unwind into a more intuitive and nourishing way of being.
Of course it is never as simple as an either/or situation. The structures shift and change shape and the spare time can feel like monotony. Whatever your experience of this time of year, however you choose (or are conditioned or obligated) to spend it, your powers of self-regulation, interaction with others, and observation of whatever else is going on will have an impact on you.
The most important thing to remember is that this time of year is filled with opportunities to change your perspective, release the things from the previous year that you don’t need anymore, and move into the future stronger, wiser and more content.
There are many ways to organise your thoughts and feelings about the previous year, so that you can go forward better at life than before. And you have the choice to do this with the support of a professional guide. Someone who you can bounce ideas off, collaborate with and open new channels of awareness through.
DHM Counselling will be available throughout the festive season as normal with an extended schedule that accommodates out of hours sessions. The beauty of running an online Counselling practice is that all that is needed to connect is time, a stable internet connection and the willingness to give your life some attention.
Have a wonderful and restful festive season, and if you are keen to book a session, I look forward to meeting with you!
